BENEFITING: Connections for Abused Women and Their Children
Grateful4Her is a storytelling initiative for celebrating the female story. A movement earthed in gratitude about the work of powerful, strong and loving women. We are on a mission to change how men, women and especially the media talks about and values women and the female story. We believe that if we change how women are valued in our society and how we express our gratitude for the work and impact of women we can change how women are treated and especially how many experience sexual harassment, sex discrimination, and domestic abuse. This will accelerate gender parity, so all women, everywhere are free to work, live and love as they choose to and have an impact freeing men of the gender roles they are conditioned by, and how we raise our children to be free and to be themselves. At Grateful4Her we see the expression of gratitude, that is making our gratitude for women visible as the key element to activate change in the gendering of our society and ourselves and our conversations about equality. In April 2017 Grateful4Her chose as our dedicated charitable partner, Connections for Abused Women and their Children (CAWC), the oldest charity in the Chicago area dedicated to serving victims of domestic violence. While Grateful4Her is committed to rewriting and amplifying the female story in the media. We wanted to use our voice to also support the awesome work already going on in the world that directly supports survivors of abuse on the ground when they need it most. Connections for Abused Women and Children (CAWC) was founded over 40 years ago in Chicago. CAWC provides safe shelter for women and children seeking refuge from their abuser, hospital-based domestic violence counseling at Stroger and Northwestern Memorial Hospitals, counseling services at Haymarket Center, legal advocacy for victims of domestic violence, and much more. CAWC also has a Domestic Violence Hotline staffed 24-hours-a-day, seven days a week. Grateful4Her launched our partnership with CAWC with a 'Grateful4Her Comedy Night and CAWC Fundraiser' in Chicago. From the Grateful4Her community, we raised over $2500 to seed our commitment to supporting survivors of domestic violence.
