Help us keep a community on their land and help them preserve not only their livelihood but tropical forest habitat at the same time! Building New Hope has partnered with the worker-owned organic coffee cooperative El Porvenir (The Future) in Nicaragua since 2002. We pay well above the fair trade price and give back directly to the community through education grants, defraying the costs of bird-friendly certification, grants to plant new coffee trees and grants to repair water tanks (there is no running water - or electricity- in the community). The income from earning the higher fair trade price for organic coffee allows the farmers to stay on their land. If you as a coffee drinker buy shade-grown and bird-friendly coffee you directly help preserve 2000 acres of native tropical forest habitat and keep the water clean and the soil pesticide free. Help us raise what it takes to import this coffee that puts people above profits. We need to raise $3 per pound of green and we want to import 5,000 pounds so we need your help to get there! We need $15,000 altogether, but are hoping you will help us raise at least half of that amount for a total of $7,500.
