BENEFITING: Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank, Inc.
I sometimes wondered why I signed up for CrowdRise a couple years ago: I am retired, physically handicapped, almost housebound. But every once in a while I browse through this site thinking how I would disperse money to fundraisers, you know, if I had a pile of money to disperse. But, as always, I come back to the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank as my charity of choice. So you can imagine what a blow it was to the community in and around Baton Rouge when we woke last weekend to the news that the huge warehouse housing the food bank was under more than four feet of flood water. The rock that was the base of our disaster relief team was toast. After a couple of days in shock we pulled each other up and brushed each other off and there it was, that 'ole neighbor helping neighbor spirit rising up and people in North Louisiana sent food and water and people from New Orleans sent food and water and people from Tulsa, OK sent food and water. People from Pennsylvania sent food trucks to cook for relief workers and church groups from all over showed up, neighbor helping neighbor. So, if you can spare the cost of lunch one day this week, neighbor to neighbor, please join my fundraiser for the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank, and be assured that one day, neighbor to neighbor, we will return the favor.
