THE GREATER DENTON ARTS COUNCIL'S
CAPITAL CAMPAIGN FOR THE ARTS
The Greater Denton Arts Council has served the North Texas community for over 45 years. Each year, over 550,000 visitors attend theatrical performances, arts exhibitions, art classes, tours, and special events at the Arts Council’s two flagship facilities – The Campus Theatre and the Patterson-Appleton Center for the Visual Arts.
THE PATTERSON-APPLETON CENTER FOR THE VISUAL ARTS
Housed in the city’s old steam power plant, the Center for the Visual Arts offers two galleries, classroom and art studio, dance rehearsal studio, meeting and event space, as well as administrative offices. Each year, the Council presents over 20 exhibitions and welcomes over 15,000 students. In addition, the Center serves as an event and meeting space for the Council’s 40 non-profit member organizations.
THE CAMPUS THEATRE
The Campus Theatre, originally an Interstate Movie Theatre, was built in 1949. In 1990, the Campus Theatre was purchased by the Arts Council and re-opened as a central location for the performing arts groups in Denton. It is now home to the Denton Community Theatre, Music Theatre of Denton, and other performing arts organizations, which present over 100 performances annually.
This spring, the Greater Denton Arts Council is launching a $500,000 capital campaign to restore and renovate these iconic Denton landmarks. The renovations to the Arts Center include upgrades to the main art gallery, exterior upgrades, and modernizing the kitchen. New audio-visual equipment will be purchased, as well as a new security system. The Campus Theatre project will replace a leaking roof, worn carpeting, and make other critical repairs to the theatre. The lighting and sound equipment will be modernized and interior spaces refurbished.
