BENEFITING: National Braille Press, Inc.
If a child isn’t proficient in reading by 3rd grade, their high school dropout rate is 4x higher. National Braille Press and Bridge MultiMedia are working together to develop a program called Great Expectations to enrich the reading experience for blind children.
Since books for young children are picture-driven, with very few words per page, it’s tough for blind kids to really participate. Next month, NBP will launch Great Expectations which will feature songs, play activities, audio picture descriptions, and a host of other imaginative ways to bring selected titles to life for the whole family.
Check out Matt Kaplowitz's feature on Humans in New York on the importance of this program here.
This is how memories are built. When children love reading, they build a foundation of literacy that lasts a lifetime.
This innovative program launches July 2014.
