Big City Mountaineers transforms the lives of under-resourced urban youth through wilderness mentoring expeditions that instill critical life skills. We partner with community-based youth organizations and caring adult volunteers who act as mentors in the field to help young people realize their potential. Our curriculum improves integrity, self- esteem, responsibility, decision-making abilities and communication skills in close to 1,000 youth annually.
MT WHITNEY CLIMB
During the summer Mt. Whitney offers a beautiful route past pine trees, boulders, granite slabs, high alpine meadows, and lakes.
The Mountaineer’s Route offers an opportunity for a climb up slopes that range from 25 to 40 degrees. The terrain is over trails and rock with some interspersed 3rd class climbing requiring the use of hands and feet on good quality granite but the terrain is not considered technical in nature. The first ascent of this route is credited to John Muir in 1873. In addition to being an excellent climb, it is a good time to test and get comfortable with any new equipment you plan to use on future climbs.
How does it work?
You pay a non-refundable registration fee & agree to fundraise $3,000 to climb the three peaks. BCM pays your guide fee of $500. Then you fundraise up to your goal & spread the word about BCM, and go on an awesome climb!
