BENEFITING: Activities Beyond the Classroom
EVENT DATE: Jun 15, 2015
Greg Loomis (1954-2011) was highly involved in both the Walnut Hills community, Cincinnati Public Schools and the Camp Ernst network in Cincinnati. He was a prodigious and effective community activist, dedicated to making a struggling neighborhood a better place to live and work.
In 2008, Greg Loomis, his brother-in-law Al Merritt, and others in the community, started a project to enable Walnut Hills youth to expand their growth and development by experiencing Camp Ernst, an overnight camp whose nature and programs are designed to lift youth to a higher level of life engagement.
For 2015, the goal of this Fund is to send 20 youth to Camp Ernst for a week of activities and fun, with a focus on instilling values of honesty, caring, responsibility and respect.
Campers will have the opportunity to meet other kids outside their network, connect with caring counselors, and enjoy fun camp activities such as ziplines, banana boats, horseback riding, a 100 ft water slide, and more.
To reach our goal of approximately $600 per camper, we hope to raise $12,500 by June 15th, 2015. All donations will go towards camper expenses, a sample of which may include:
- $10 - $50: Camper toiletries (bug spray, sunscreen, flashlight)
- $50 - $100: Camp supplies (sleeping bag, swim gear, rain poncho, backpack)
- $500: A week of camp expenses for one child at YMCA Camp Ernst
- $600: Full child sponsorship (1 week of camp + supplies)
All donations are 100% tax-deductible and will be managed through Activities Beyond the Classroom, a respected Cincinnati non-profit that works with Cincinnati Public Schools to maintain, manage and develop extracurricular activities to help enrich children’s lives. After making a donation to the Greg Loomis Walnut Hills Camper Fund page, you will receive an email receipt that meets the IRS requirements for donation records. Upon completion of the fundraiser, any additional donations will roll over into a 2016 fund for new campers. Thank you in advance for your willingness to support this cause and carry on Greg’s vision of enriching the lives of youth in the Cincinnati community, one experience at a time.
