My name is Greg Kwedar and I'm riding the Trois Etapes to support Team Rwanda and the growth of cycling in Africa. More than that, I'm supporting these men who have become ambassadors of peace to millions around the world. I've known these cyclists for the last four years as I've walked alongside them producing the film Rising from Ashes. Now I support them as the Executive Director of the Rising from Ashes Foundation. I'm privileged to call them my friends. They are my heroes and I truly believe it is one of the most powerful and magical things happening on the continent of Africa - in the entire world. www.rfafoundation.org
I'm not a cyclist by background. I'm new to Lycra (and shaved legs). The Trois Etapes is one of the toughest Pro/Am cycling events on Earth. Our team of seven riders and one Team Rwanda pro will climb three mountains on the Tour de France course in the French Pyrenees. IT WILL BE THE HARDEST PHYSICAL CHALLENGE OF MY LIFE. http://troisetapes.org/
I'm asking for your support. My goal is to raise at least $10,000 to support the Rising from Ashes Foundation and three specific programs:
1) The development of the first world class cycling training facility in Rwanda the "Africa Rising Cycling Center"
2) The launching of the Adrien Niyonshuti Cycling Academy which is developing the next generation of young cyclists in Rwanda
3) The showing of Rising from Ashes across Rwanda, creating a resulting forum for Team Rwanda Riders to speak to their own countrymen about the power of sport to bring people together.
So whatever you are compelled to give - is an honor. It will fuel each mile of training and each french fry I pass up. My hope is to raise funds but also encouragement and emotional support.
Thank you for your friendship.
As Rafiki from Team Rwanda says - "Team is Team"
P.S. Huge thank you to Jack and Adams Bicycles in Austin, TX for all of their support of my campaign! jackandadams.com
