I will be running in the Marine Corps Marathon this year in Washington, DC for the charity Team Travis and Brendan. This charity is a way to give back to our troops that are fighting for what our country stands for. It was originally founded to remember the two marines (Travis Manion and Brendan Looney) who made the ultimate sacrifice while overseas. It is a very noble cause and it is part of my motivation to do the race. If anyone out there can help out with my fundraising for the remarkable sacrifices that our troops make on a daily basis, please visit my fundraising page for instructions on how to donate. Any type of donation is appreciated as we can only give back to the greatest heroes out there.
Thank you for any help you can give.
Read more about Team Travis and Brendan below:
Travis Manion and Brendan Looney were best friends and roommates at the United States Naval Academy. Today, they now lay side by side at Arlington National Cemetery.
Travis, a Marine who was killed in action on April 29, 2007 was awarded the Silver Star and Bronze Star with Valor for his heroic actions. Navy SEAL Brendan Looney, a true American hero and patriot, was killed in Afghanistan on September 21, 2010.
Since 2007, the Travis Manion Foundation has participated as an official charity partner of the Marine Corps Marathon and 10K. In 2010 the team name changed from Team Travis, to Team Travis and Brendan. Participants run to raise funds and awareness for the Travis Manion Foundation as well as honor the sacrifices of Travis, Brendan and all of our American heroes.
The Travis Manion Foundation inspired by Travis’ words “If not me, then who…” has an overriding goal of Honoring the Fallen by Challenging the Living. The mission is to assist our nation’s Veterans and families of Fallen Heroes. We will continue the service to community and country exemplified by these Fallen Heroes and Veterans. In the spirit of the Fallen, we will foster strength of mind and body to create a generation of future leaders.
The foundation has three main programs in which they accomplish their mission:
Honor the Fallen- After the casualty officer leaves and support fades, families are left with a loss that forever changes their lives. The Travis Manion Foundation offers opportunities for children, parents, spouses, siblings and battle buddies to honor their loved one by challenging themselves in uniquely personal ways. We also partner with the Mission Continues to offer a program that keeps the spirit of service and love of country alive for every Fallen Hero.
Character Does Matter - Is designed to challenge young men and women to look for the moments in their lives where they can do good – to recognize both big and small decisions as opportunities to stand up for others, defend what’s right, and help those around; to encourage each and every person to ask themselves “IF NOT ME, THEN WHO…”
9/11 Heroes Run- Run. Volunteer. Donate. Cheer. But most of all Honor. Inspired by Travis' visit to Rescue Team One in New York City before his final deployment to Iraq, the Travis Manion Foundation holds 5K runs to honor September 11th. The annual 9/11 Heroes Run is held to remember, honor and support our men and women in the Armed Services, Police, Firefighter and emergency responder communities who protect and serve our country every day.
The foundation also "Continues His Mission" through Scholarships, Greif Seminars in partnership with TAPS, and service projects.
The selflessness and spirit of service that Travis and all of our Fallen Heroes had continue to be the driving force behind the foundation. To learn more about the foundation, it's programs, and events please visit www.TravisManion.com
