BENEFITING: Gronk Nation Youth Foundation
ORGANIZER: Gronk Nation Youth Foundation
EVENT: 2016 Boston Marathon
Greeting Friends and Family!
Thank you very much for taking the time to view my Boston Marathon fundraising page! As many of you know, Carrie and I have fundraised extensively over the last few years for veteran-related non-profits, but this year, we are back in the Berkshires and shifting focus to empowering local youth through sports in concert with the Gronk Nation Youth Foundation.
If you take a minute to think about who you are today, the person you’ve become both personally and professionally, and how you got here, I’d imagine that you might lend considerable credit to the key influencers of your youth – some combination of people, community, environment, and activity. Personally, I feel very fortunate to have been surrounded by positive influencers as a child – many stemming from my participation in sports. I feel strongly about exposing today’s youth to sports to gain the values from inspirational role models, health benefits, discipline, teamwork, and other important qualities. I imagine you feel the same!
Recent studies connect youth sports participation with improved grades, lower crime, and increased likelihood to attend college or pursue full-time employment after high school. It makes sense – sports promote positive life skills. Further, sports bridge social divides, uniforms cross-level the playing field, coaches inspire, discipline, and develop, and kids have fun while growing as members of a team and community.
The opportunity to participate in sports is an opportunity that Rob Gronkowski strives to serve and strengthen through the Gronk Nation Youth Foundation. I am fortunate to have been selected to Rob’s Boston Marathon team, and as such, I will be running the Marathon on April 18th, and my fundraising effort for Gronk Nation will be donated in part to the Pittsfield Youth Football Program – assisting in application fee waivers for players in need, equipment updates, safety personnel, certifications for coaches, and the longevity of the program. Having recently moved back to the Berkshires, I look forward to being involved with the youth of our community, and appreciate Rob’s willingness to work in partnership for the benefit of Pittsfield, Massachusetts and the future success of our local youth.
