BENEFITING: GROVE HIGH SCHOOL
EVENT DATE: Dec 04, 2014
Global Awareness and Model United Nations Club is a small group of students at the Grove School in Redlands who are interested in international affairs and spreading awareness of global issues. Last year, we attended two Model United Nations conferences, where we were assigned countries, researched international issues, and participated in simulations of United Nations committee sessions. There, we received recognition for our research, eloquence, leadership, and diplomacy. After our success, we were inspired to create the Global Awareness Club so that we could bring our experience back to our community.
Along with discussing issues relevant to the international community and coordinating events within our school community, the Global Awareness Club aims to attend three Model UN conferences over the course of this year. Our first is the Regional High School Model UN conference in San Francisco with 3,000 other students from across the western United States. Later in the year, we also plan to attend conferences hosted by UC Santa Barbara and Claremont McKenna College.
We have been working hard this year to fundraise so that we can attend these conferences, but we still have more to raise. Any money donated will go towards paying for conference entrance fees, hotel rooms while at the conferences, and transportation to and from the conferences. It is important to us that everyone has the opportunity to attend these conferences regardless of their ability to pay, money raised here will go to making sure that can happen.
