BENEFITING: TRANSITIONS - MENTAL HEALTH ASSOCIATION
WE ARE RAISING FUNDS AND AWARENESS FOR OUR EMPLOYMENT PROGRAMS IN SANTA MARIA!
Every $35 gift pays for a 3-hour work shift (with benefits) for adults living with mental illness at TMHA's Growing Grounds Farm or Gallery. $70 pays for two shifts; $140 for four shifts, and so on.
Since 2000, TMHA has operated the Growing Grounds Farm of Santa Maria, one of California's most compassionate, proactive forms of treatment for adults living mental illness. A combination of vocational training and therapeutic horticulture, the farm provides a disenfranchised population with true employment opportunities.
We now have two "Growing Grounds" social enterprise work sites in Santa Maria! The Growing Grounds Gallery & Gifts is a retail space providing regular employment for adults with mental illness while offering our clients a showcase to sell their original art and hand crafted gifts to the public.
In the U.S, 1 in 4 adults lives with mental illness at some point. The stigma they face makes finding and keeping a job especially challenging. Anyone who has gone through a period of unemployment can relate to the frustration and humiliation that comes with the inability to support oneself.
We have not received funding from Santa Barbara County since 2008 for this work program, so we rely on sales revenues, foundation grants, and gifts from private donors like you.
Recovery from mental illness is possible. Supported employment is a critical component of this recovery. Thank you for helping us get adults living with mental illness back to work!
