Growing Organic Food to Feed Homeless People
Organized by: Carley Vennard
Our motto is "we help feed the hungry and the homeless". We plan to reduce the homeless population by feeding them and also by offering them the opportunity to help us grow the food on our farm land. We will serve organic dishes from our food truck called the Chuckwagon. We believe the nutrition from the organic food will help the homeless to feel better and healthier and help them to want to get back in the game of life again. In 2014 Phoenix Arizona's population according to the US Census was 6, 626,624 and one out of every 227 people in that area experienced homelessness last year. Families made up 40 percent of those numbers. We believe we need to do something about this now, it's time "we take care of our community needs in this way" and help our families and children from this kind of suffering. We will use the funds acquired to purchase land in the Prescott area, set up a bunkhouse for future farm hands, set up the irrigation system and start our growing as soon as we can. We will purchase a food truck and will advertise in the media with the help of a webpage etc. We are a group of 8, we are all service people and have been our entire life. Our hope is when people hear about our purpose work is to feed the hungry, some will step up and want to work with us as well. The plan is to eventually turn this into a non profit that feeds people in need and that we move outward and help other communities next.
