Girls on the Run is a non-profit positive youth development program for girls in the 3rd through 8th grade. We envision a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams!
Our life-changing curriculum combines training for a 5K (3.1 miles) running event with lessons that inspire girls to become independent thinkers, enhance their problem solving skills and make healthy decisions. All of this is accomplished through an active collaboration with girls and their parents, schools, volunteers, staff, and the community.
Girls on the Run of Southeastern Michigan serves girls throughout Washtenaw, Livingston, Lenawee, Monroe, and Jackson counties at community centers and public, charter, and religious schools. Since our inaugural season in 2002 our council has grown from serving 92 girls to almost 2,000 each school year. Eighty-seven percent of our sites are hosted at Title One designated schools that serve under-resourced, low-income communities. In 2015 over 40% of our participants requested and received scholarships. We’ve awarded over $100,000 in financial aid this year alone. Our dream is to make the Girls on the Run program available to ALL girls in southeastern Michigan.
Will you help us inspire even more girls in our community to make positive choices, avoid negative behaviors and create generations of healthy, confident female leaders?
