Team Skangaga Ma Frenzo!
Trevor, Hooter, and Meagan are tackling the NYC Triathlon in support of Grassroot Soccer!
Trevor first learned about GRS during a soccer prep camp in 2005. GRS instantly grabbed him and he constantly thought about the internship program during college. The idea of using sport as a way to better educate resonates strongly with his personal experiences as well as Trevor's philosophy of using a common passion to create a stronger bond for learning. Now finished with his year-long internship in Kimberley, South Africa, he can say choosing GRS was a great decision. Trevor will be braving the Hudson River to swim 1500m for Team Skangaga Ma Frenzo.
Hooter joined GRS in 2009, and spent a year as a Programs Intern in Kimberley, South Africa. He has since been working with the Global Curriculum and Training team in Africa. In addition to his role with our curriculum team, Hooter works with the US Development Team as the GRS Tournament Coordinator. Hooter will channel the ferociousness of the Tour de France as he cycles 40km along the West Side Highway.
After 2 years serving in Peace Corps Malawi, Meagan jumped into the Program Manager role for GRS Malawi in 2010, building the program up and introducing Sister2Sister, a girls-only sexual health curriculum. Although she was sad to return to the States in 2011, she has kept up with GRS coaches and staff all over the world. Meagan will be running (and dancing) 10 km through Central Park to finish out the triathlon for Team Skangaga Ma Frenzo.
Grassroot Soccer has graduated over 500,000 youth through our HIV/AIDS education program. GRS is moving forward with the official goal of reaching 1 million youth educated and empowered by World Cup 2014.
Our Triathletes are key to helping us reach the 1 million by 2014 goal. With every step, every hour spent training, every contribution they secure we are getting closer to an HIV-free generation!
