EVENT DATE: Jul 09, 2015
Will you give up a cup of coffee/boba for someone to have a better life?
This upcoming summer I have an amazing privilege to volunteer with Good Samaritan Medical Dental Ministry (GSMDM), a non-profit organization that works to better healthcare in rural Vietnam. GSMDM does this through:
- Annual mission trip to provide free primary health and dental care to the poorest of the poor in Vietnam, most of who have never received any medical care.
- Making life-changing surgeries possible to those who could not afford them.
- Provide emergency medicine training to Vietnamese providers. Through GSMDM's work, Emergency Medicine has been officially recognized as a specialty in Vietnam in 2013, and the first emergency medicine residency has started at Hue University.
- Spread God’s love
I will be serving in the primary care team, along with 126 other volunteer assistants and providers. The mission will last 2 weeks and we anticipate seeing over 200 patients a day!
Honestly, as an undergraduate, I am not at all qualified in terms of medical knowledge and skills to be charged with this task. But I do realize that through this mission, members of GSMDM are able to provide the people of Vietnam more than tangible medical care – a piece of God’s love. We too will be able to experience the same kind of love and compassion through one another!
All I am asking from you is a $5 donation, and with 100 of you, that’s $500! The funds raised will directly benefit GSMDM - This translates to food for families in need, necessary vitamin supplements for children, room and board for surgical patients, and many more.
Words of encouragement and prayers are also much appreciated! I will definitely keep you all posted on how the mission went – through physical postcards and/or email updates <3
