In 2004, my son William died from cancer. After experiencing the tragedy of losing my son Will, I wasn’t ready to stop fighting cancer. Thousands of families across the U.S. and Australia today face the same life threatening battle. In fact, cancer is the #1 disease killer of children, cutting short the lives of more children under the age of 20 than any other disease. Each year more than 12,500 children are diagnosed with cancer. Because of these children, I am a part of Team Will to bring hope and help to children with cancer and their families.
I have been a part of Team Will's first three cross country rides. This year will be the first time that I will not be able to participate in Team Will’s cross country ride in the U.S. However, I will not let a separation of 7,000 miles stop me. I have commited to a one day ride here in Australia during Team Will’s U.S ride. I will be riding from Sydney to Newcastle on 1 July to bring hope to children in the US and Australia.
“Go the Distance 2012” is set for June 24 - July 3, 2012. This time riding from San Francisco, CA to Boston, MA, in 10 days, Team Will plans to cross 14 states, visit 18 hospitals and participate in 7 community rallies with a goal of raising $125,000 for family support services and childhood cancer research.
