Guatemalan Mission Trip
Organized by: Kelsey Hinken
EVENT DATE May 12, 2014
This summer, we decided to do something a little bit different. Instead of working all summer to pay off school loans or taking a vacation to the beach, we decided to leave our comfort zones, and country, to spend time in Santiago, Guatemala.
Our professor, Dr. Julie Luebbers, has founded a non-profit organization called Ten Fe, which works to provide education for orphaned Guatemalan children. Her friend, Don Romeo, lives in Santiago and generously opens his own home to many of the orphans. Despite his own poverty, he and his family generously give all that they have to others. He also works tirelessly to construct houses around the community for those less fortunate.
While we are down there, we will be spending time with the orphans, who look for tangible connections with adults since their own parents are missing in their young lives. We will also be working with Don Romeo in his construction endeavors. He can be overwhelmed with all the projects he takes on so it is our goal to alleviate some of his stress by helping him out in any way possible.
We often take so much for granted in this country so we're hoping to gain some perspective on this trip while helping out those who have very little material goods. Since we are funding this trip ourselves, which includes airfare, lodging costs, bottled water, etc, we greatly appreciate any and all support. We understand if a monetary donation isn't possible so we ask for your prayers as well.
Any money we raise above our goal amount of $1,800.00 will be used to directly benefit the children through new clothes, soccer balls, etc.!
Thank you in advance! Much love from us and may God bless you!
