Gulf South Rising Katrina 10 Week of Action
Organized by: Gulf South Rising
Join us and support the Gulf South Rising: Katrina 10 Week of Action! Lift up the leadership and resistance of people who continue to fight on the frontlines of climate, economic and racial justice.
The Katrina 10 Week of Action represents a powerful coming together of local people, collectives and organizations to coordinate and elevate more than 13 events August 21-30 in multiple locations from Biloxi, MS to New Orleans, LA.
In New Orleans, events culminate in historic Armstrong Park and Congo Square, a sacred space of resistance, in an incredible four-day convergence that is free and accessible to the public. The Southern Movement Assembly (SMA) will connect hundreds of community organizers and leaders to increase collective power across multiple frontlines. One of the 5 components of the SMA is the Youth Movement Assembly, which will create a safe space for New Orleans and regional youth to strategize a vision for an equitable future together. On August 29th, Congo Square will hold Rhythmic Alchemy, a restorative art, music and dance healing and recovery experience for the mind, body and spirit rooted in authentic African, Native American and South Louisiana cultural and healing traditions.
