Water & Health For All
Organized by: Byron Cohen
Water & Health For All is a community-based nonprofit organization incorporated and operating in Northern Uganda that is dedicated to fighting preventable water-borne disease. It was previously known as the Gulu Clean Water Initiative.
Water & Health For All empowers vulnerable communities to sustainably access clean water and adopt healthful hygiene and sanitation practices. Water-borne diseases are the world's leading killer, taking 3.4 million lives each year, mostly young children. We need YOUR HELP to prevent as many cases of these diseases as possible!
We are taking on this critical challenge in several ways:
- We rehabilitate damaged, contaminated, or nonfunctional protected wells in many of the poorest neighborhoods of Gulu, in places like Pece Prisons and Iriaga, where thousands of people drink from contaminated water sources because the protected wells in their neighborhood have fallen into disrepair, often for lack of funds, technical knowledge, or community mobilization.
- We require these communities to democratically form Water Source Committees to manage and maintain these wells, and provide them with technical, financial, and management training that empowers them to ensure they have sustainable access to clean water.
- We engage these communities with a targeted hygiene and sanitation education campaign, seeking to increase healthful practices during critical moments such as hand washing before feeding a child or right before cooking.
Any and all financial support takes us closer to ending the needless suffering and death caused by preventable water-borne diseases in Gulu, Uganda. Every child deserves to live a healthy life. With your help, we can make big strides towards that dream.
