Hello! I'm Gus Hlebovy, a retired minor league baseball player. I played 5 years of pro ball and was born and raised in Youngstown, Ohio. As alot of people know Youngstown is the home of thousands and thousands of under privelaged kids that will never have an opportunity to play a sport or know what it's like to be part of a team. Youngstown is a special community in the sense that there is so many good people out there trying their hardest to give their kids and family a better life. But because of such a high rate of unemployment and very low amount (if not the lowest in the U.S.A.) of jobs, many people feel stuck and find themselves having to cope with poverty. As I look back at my childhood, I remember all I wanted to do was play sports and by the grace of God I was able to do so. Through sports I got a college scholarship to a Division I College and got an opportunity to play at a Professional Level. I learned many life skills such as discipline, determination and competetion through sports. The thing that is so sad for me is that many of the children in my area will never get the opportunity to be part of a team or a winning enviorment. What I am trying to do, is open a sporting complex in the Youngstown Ohio area that provides free training for under privelaged kids whose family is living at poverty level. I plan on bringing in Professional and accomplished coaches and trainers to teach the following sports. Baseball and Softball as well as Football, Soccer, Basketball, Golf and Volleyball. I believe that sports can bring people together and help them create a great future for not only themselves but it can also flourish a community that is in desperate need of repair.
