After qualifying for the Boston Marathon this fall with a time of 3:39:49, I decided to run the marathon with Team Deloitte to raise money for Brigham and Women's Hospital.

I am running to raise financial support for community health programs at Brigham and Women's Hospital, such as the Center for Community Health and Health Equity.

The goals of the Center for Community Health and Health Equity center around the concept of health equity, the idea that everyone should have access to effective, quality healthcare, regardless of one’s race, gender or socioeconomic status. When communities become healthier, the results can be far-reaching. Children do better in school, crime drops, and people feel more civic responsibility and civic pride.

In Boston’s neighborhoods today, there exist dramatic differences in the distribution of health services that have a shocking effect on health. Tristan Thomas knows these differences first hand.

Tristan was pregnant and scared when she first arrived at the Mattapan Community Health Center and met her case manager, Beverly Jones, OE. Through the Perinatal Case Manager Prorgam, Tristan was able to overcome her drug problems and keep her son, Tahkeel. “Without these programs, I don’t know where I would have been,” Thomas says.
