Gyrfalcon's road to rehab!
Organized by: Jason Miknuk
UPDATE: Unfortunately, we were unable to raise the required money in time for the surgery to take place. The bones in Big Guy's wing began to set and calcify already, preventing us from being able to perform the surgery. If you still wish to donate to this cause, we would be putting your money towards the bills incurred by the ongoing medical expenses for Big Guy. Thank you for your time and consideration!
My name is Jason Miknuk, second generation falconer. Big Guy is my young, beautiful, sweet, white GyrFalcon. On January 25, 2016 my father and I were flying him when he was chased off by an eagle. 3 days later he was found on the ground severely underweight with a broken wing. After X-rays we discovered the ulna was broken in three places. He needs surgery now! Without it he will never fly again; that's no life for any bird. Imagine being tied to a perch for 20 years. You may ask what about zoos or an education program? Same end result, spending the rest of his life on a perch. I scheduled the surgery for Monday morning February 1st. I honestly don't know how I will be afford to pay the vet and I'm relying on faith on this one. Please even a few dollars and share with your friends. Even if you can't afford $5 please help me take this drive viral.
Further more big guy has a sister Ursula (black gyrfalcon) that he hates to be away from. He'll drag his perch across the garage to sit under he.
i hold a "hawk talk" a 45 min Q&A and flight demo at the Hyatt Regency in Indian wells California at 10 am every Saturday. I invite everyone to join me.
