Hi everyone and thank you for visiting my crowdrise page! My name is Katie O'Donnell and I am a current sopomore at Binghamton University and I am a member of our school's chapter of Engineers Without Borders.
Every year millions of people die from the simple fact that clean water isn't available to them. Something that we take for granted is considered a luxry in other places such as Hipolito in which they have to drink unclean water filled with bacteria that causes diseases. Think of how often water is wasted here- when people keep the faucet on while brushing their teeth, take long showers, and only wash half a load of laundry. However, since we have an unlimited access to water, this isn't a major concern to us. It is, on the other hand, a concern to people in which there isn't an unlimited supply of water and even worse what they have is not sanitary. I think it's important that we realize what living conditions other people have to face and learn to appreciate the small things, such as always having clean water.
This project aims to help make the world, and more specificially Hipolito, a better place. The goal of this project is to provide over 300 people in the village of Hipolito, Peru with clean water. In conjunction with Amazon Promise, several members will have the opportunity to go to Hipolito and install the water filtration systems. This project is a great opportunity to put our engineer knowledge to work to design and construct these filtration systems, while making a big difference in the world.
