EVENT DATE: Jul 16, 2017
This year, I want to raise awareness & funds for the conservation of the world’s wild cats. I will be running the Jetty 2 Jetty Half Marathon, for the love of running, and for the love of wild cats.
Please take a few minutes to read the following, and donate to my cause if you can.
A little about my charity of choice, Panthera. I have been following their work in the past few years, ever impressed by the pragmatic and scientific approach used to achieve results for the conservation of wild cats around the world. Panthera's vision is a world where wild cats thrive in healthy natural and developed landscapes that sustain people and biodiversity. I think it is important for a conservation society to acknowledge the need to manage the sometimes complicated relationship between wildlife and people. Panthera's strategy is to stop poaching, prevent conflict with people, conserve wild cat habitats, and reduce unsustainable legal hunting.
Panthera to my mind, has the right vision & strategy.
This statement from the Panthera website encapsulates their approach to conservation.
"Panthera is the only organization in the world devoted exclusively to the conservation of the world’s wild cats. Our team of leading biologists and law enforcement experts develop innovative strategies to address the dire threats facing cheetahs, jaguars, leopards, lions, pumas, snow leopards, and tigers. We are on the front lines, fighting to stop poaching, prevent conflict with people, conserve wild cat habitats, and reduce unsustainable legal hunting. These proven strategies don't just protect wild cats—they also protect their vast landscapes and the endless variety of life within them. These wild places are crucial to our planet’s health—and our own. "
