BENEFITING: HAIR PEACE CHARITIES
ORGANIZER: HAIR PEACE CHARITIES
EVENT: Pittsburgh Marathon 2016
EVENT DATE: May 01, 2016
This year, I'm running the 2016 Pittsburgh Half Marathon to raise money to help Hair Peace Charities.
Hair Peace Charities started to assist women and girls battling cancer. Many people lose their hair soon after starting chemotheraphy treatment. Oftentimes insurance companies will not cover costs associated with wigs.
The anxiety associated with possibly losing hair due to chemo treatments can be severe. It was for my mother as she battled cancer in 2011. We found a way to pay for a wig thanks to a similiar organization. I don't remember the name of the organization that helped us during that period of trying to find the right wig, but as soon as I heard about this organization, I wanted to raise awareness and funds for their cause.
My fundraising goal is $350. I hope to have this raised by April 15th. Every penny counts. Thank you for your support!!
MORE ABOUT THE CHARITY:
With many cancers, women will lose their hair 15 days after the first chemotheraphy treatment. In Pennsylvania, most insurance companies state a wig is not needed and do not cover the costs. This is why Bonny Diver-Hall started Hair Peace Charities, to assist women and girls as cancer is expensive...co-pays, loss of work from sick days - money is tight. Most wigs cost around $300. Hair Peace allows $150 of that cost if the cancer patient's insurance does not pay for a wig and purchasing a wig is a hardship. A call to Bonny is required from the patient or her parent. The funds are set for those in the Pittsburgh region, phone area codes 412 and 724.
If you know someone going through cancer in need of assistance, have them call Bonny at 412-327-5177 or ask them if Bonny can contact them and only with their permission, Bonny will call.
Hair Peace Charities is a faith based organization. All faiths including those without faith are served. We operate knowing Grace is a gift given freely to anyone who asks.
Hair Peace Charities counts on the monetary gifts of the community to offer this money and thanks everyone for their contributions.
