Oops, I did it again! I signed up for the Pittsburgh Half Marathon.
Last year I completed my very first Pittsburgh Half Marathon (wahoo!), and let me tell you, it was no joke. I've run a lot of races but I have never faced a more challenging course than this, and never had been more physically and mentally drained than I was while running the race.
You're probably wondering why I would ever register again, and honestly, I am thinking the same thing. Last year, I participated in the race as a charity runner, where you commit to fundraising for your chosen charity. It's amazing how much money is raised for great causes. Last year alone, the Pittsburgh marathon raised over 1.5 million dollars- how AWESOME! It feels great to challenge myself with something I love to do, all while raising money for an amazing cause.
This year I've decided to run with Haiti H20. My mother and step- dad have made mission trips to Haiti an annual occurrence and they are so passionate about helping this nation in need. In Haiti, the average life expectancy is a mere 61 years old, which may not be surprising after you find out that HALF of the children less than 5 years old are malnourished. 38% of the Haitian population is unable to read or write. This year, I want to help raise money and awareness for this cause that is so incredibly important.
All the money raised will help Haiti H2O provide clean water projects, agriculture, sanitation, schools, and more to rural Haitian communities, cultivating hope and opportunities.
