Corey Johnson wrote -I’m very proud to announce that our Managing Director, Hakeem Ngubane, has been accepted to begin his studies toward a degree in Management at the University of South Africa this July. Hakeem’s journey to this point has been filled with incredible obstacles and amazing personal determination. I met Hakeem last year in a Life Skills program we held for unemployed youth in our community. From day one, Hakeem caught my eye as someone who had both immense potential and a strong desire to serve his community. After the completion of the Life Skills course, Hakeem joined us for a 3 month unpaid internship, which became a job, and soon he started managing our local operations.
To say I’m proud of Hakeem would be a massive understatement. His growth this last year has been nothing short of spectacular. Hakeem has risen to every challenge he’s been given and has made himself an indispensable member of the Imagine Scholar family. The thing that impresses me most, though, is his incredible heart. This has never been a job for him, but a labor of love. He’s adopted each of our students not only into his life, but into his family. It is not uncommon to stop by his house and see groups of kids doing their homework or eating an after school meal.
What I’m saying is that he’s a really special guy :) Now he has an opportunity to take a huge step towards his dreams. Hakeem just received approval for correspondence courses in Management from the University of South Africa. He’ll stay on as our Managing Director while practicing what he preaches in education by working towards his degree as well.
Now I humbly ask your help to allow him this opportunity. This term he’s hoping to take 3 courses, which in total will cost $707. This will cover tuition, books, and exam costs. The amazing thing is that not only will you be investing in Hakeem, but also in Imagine Scholar as a whole. I thank you guys so much for your consideration, and please email me if you have any questions at all Corey@ImagineScholar.org
