THE STORY:

Thomas Yost wrote -

This is our teams 2nd year participating in "Take a Swing Against Breast Cancer." Last year although we weren't the highest scoring team we were the highest fundraisers for the Metro Bank Park Location! Great job team and thanks to all those who donated. My goal is to be the highest fundraisers again this year and of course with the largest crowd cheering. We had a lot of supporters who came out to cheer us on.

This years team we will be missing Dan and myself as Dan has moved out of state and I am expecting a baby girl in August. Don't think the baby would enjoy being hit by a baseball. :-) But I know our team will do great and excited to have new participants come out to "Take a Swing Against Breast Cancer!"

This October 2014 will be 2 years since my mom, Kathie, was diagnosed with Stage IV Lobular Carcinoma of the Breast. Something that came as a huge surprise to us all. She was having a surgery unrelated to her diagnosis and the surgeon told us they found breast cancer cells in another part of her body. Obviously, we were devastated. My mom has dense breasts and what we didn't know is that sometimes with dense breasts, abnormalities can't be picked up with mammograms alone. We learned from this and continue to spread the word about dense breasts and what it really means. This past year in 2013 a bill was passed making it mandatory to alert women who have dense breasts so they can have a discussion with their physicians. Some good has come out of this not so good situation.

My mom has endured radiation to her bones, shots monthly for the rest of her life, tons of blood work, and takes a pill daily to hopefully keep the cancer from spreading anymore than it already has. My mother is a true hero and inspiration because through the surgery, the diagnosis, the treatment, she has been so positive and keeps a strong faith. My mom tells me I do all the worrying for her. She has a great group of friends and supporters through her journey.

Thank you to all the supporters, donors, and of course the P.A. Breast Coalition.

Mom this event is in honor of you and all those affected by breast cancer.

$10 contribution to Brent and $10 to Josh. These contributions are in memory of my great aunt, Ernestine Salandria, who lost her second battle with breast cancer in November of 2000. She successfully beat her first battle and had many healthy years of life while it was in remission. Thank you to doctors and care-providers for all your help. Go out and hit some bombs for a good cause! 4 years ago
