BENEFITING: OLIVIA BOCCUZZI FOUNDATION INC
EVENT DATE: Jan 27, 2017
Hello Everyone! Hope you are well!
A brief update. My triathlon career came to an abrupt stop last September when I fell off my bike turbo trainer and broke my ribs while training for another race. Contrary to rumours it was not reaching for a biscuit. :) It took lots of pints of beer, tasty food and sweets to recover. Needless to say my fitness levels have suffered.
So I have decided one more time to try and get the elusive IronMan. The idea of raising money for a great cause and using all the tri equipment I bought is a huge incentive. Plus the support and motivation you all gave the last time really pushed me through the training. I realise people get bombarded wit these requests all the time. So any donation is greatly appreciated. Also, please keep the encouraging emails coming!
Thanks for reading this!
Here is a summary and link for the Foundation.
The foundation was founded in honor of my niece, Olivia Marie, a spunky, smart, beautiful, and courageous little girl who was nearly 3-years-old when she lost her 11-month battle with childhood cancer.
Olivia was the daughter of my brother-in-law, Frank Boccuzzi and his wife Enza. I have come to learn that childhood cancer is massively underfunded and kills more kids under the age of 18 than ALL other childhood diseases combined. With those statistics I was surprised to learn that despite the need for progress and resolution, childhood cancer awareness and thus, financial support has not reached the same national level as other cancer campaigns.
It is my goal to raise awareness about the need of financial support for pediatric cancer and raise funds for a charity that donates 100% of their donations to research in hopes of finding cures and more effective treatments. I realize that some people have their own favourite charities but if you can spare to make a donation it would be much appreciated. Thank you!
Please read more about The Olivia Boccuzzi Foundation below:
The Olivia Boccuzzi Foundation is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) tax-exempt non-profit organization. The mission of the Olivia Boccuzzi Foundation is to provide funds to medical or scientific personnel and/or institutions that are actively researching cures for pediatric brain tumors through medical trials and scientific research. With the help of our medical advisory board, which consists of world-renowned pediatric Neuro-oncologists, we support the most viable research projects and trials in an effort to find a cure for brain tumors. The Olivia Boccuzzi Foundation is also committed to providing education and raising public awareness about pediatric cancers and the lack of funding that is currently allocated towards children with cancer from the government and other sources. We believe that increased awareness will lead to more funding and better outcomes. One hundred percent of all monies donated are used towards out mission.
