BENEFITING: Brain & Behavior Research Foundation
EVENT: Quad Cities Marathon 2015
EVENT DATE: Sep 27, 2015
Over the summer, I would drive to school every morning and I would always see people outside running/walking/biking. This always made me happy and motivated me to be outside myself. This is when I started training for half-marathon hoping people will see me outside and it might motivate them to be outside also, hoping to make an impact, especially with people who suffer from brain & behavior disorders such as depression and anxiety. There is a lot of research out regarding how exercise can help manage these disorders. Which, eventually led me to raise money for Brain & Behavior Research foundation. I've always been interested in brain & behavior disorders. This is a field we do not know much about. Many pharmaceutical therapies are like throwing darts in a dark room. On top of being unsure that if the therapy is going to actually work, these drugs also come with many unpleasant side effects. The only way to improve these therapies or even come up alternative therapies is to understand how these disorders and our brain works.
