BENEFITING: Crohn's & Colitis Foundation

EVENT DATE: Dec 04, 2011

Leyla Fazel

Thank you for visiting my site. I’ve decided to participate in my first half marathon in support of Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America.
Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative colitis are the two main disease categories belonging to a larger group of illnesses called Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). Both of these illnesses trigger an abnormal response by the body’s immune system resulting in chronic painful inflammation of parts of the digestive tract such as the small intestine and colon. These illnesses impact the daily lives of many patients and their families. It affects many aspects of the individuals lives from school, work, participation in sports, and ability to travel. As of yet, researchers still do not know what causes these diseases. More funding is needed for continued research and hopefully a cure.
My main reason for joining Team Challenge and joining their efforts in raising funds for CCFA, a non-profit organization, is also a personal one. My younger cousin Christian was diagnosed with Crohn’s 11 years ago when he was just 9 years old. He has been struggling and suffering with this disease since then. Over the years, he has been on countless medications and treatments. My hope for Christian and the 1.4 million of others with IBD is to finally have a cure. Since further research is required for advanced drug development and treatments further funding is crucial.
I am asking for your support in helping me raise enough funds to meet the $4000.00 goal for Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America. In the next three months I will be training with professional coaches and trainers in preparation for the half marathon in Las Vegas on December 4, 2011. Your contributions are tax-deductible. My journey is considerably easier than anyone who has Crohn’s or Colitis. My goal is to raise awareness and the much needed funds.
Thank you for your support!
