THE STORY:

Inspired by my late twin brother, Wyatt Mitchell, we are celebrating life the funnest way we know how - with our third annual Half-Stache Bash! Wyatt never took himself too seriously, so to honor him, we've packed a day full of mirth including: cake walks, prizes, lawn games, fake tattoos, tortoise races, and more!

The Fundraiser will be held in Winn Park (in the Ansley Park neighborhood) on Sunday, Sept 21 from 1-5pm

Bring your kids, dogs, and adult beverage of choice

Hot Dogs, Veggie Dogs, Boiled Peanuts, Soft Drinks and Water available for purchase

Why the "Half-Stache"?:

Like many cancers, Sarcoma is hard to treat.  Wyatt battled intensive surgeries, chemotherapy treatments, and radiation.  Being a strong-willed man with a great sense of humor, Wyatt didn't let these treatments defeat him.  He wore them proudly. Radiation gave him half a 'stache, that he wore whole-heartedly.

Sarcoma Sucks!:

Sarcoma is a type of cancer that originates in connective tissue.  Connective tissue is categorized into: connective tissue proper (e.g. tendons, ligaments, & adipose tissue), supporting connective tissue (e.g. bone and cartilage), and fluid connective tissue (e.g. blood and lymph).  Connective tissue is vascular, so the cancer cells can metasticize through the circulatory system.

Sarcoma is a rare and aggressive cancer, frequently hiding deep in arms or legs. Wyatt's Synovial Sarcoma oddly occurred in and around his jaw on the left side of his face. Synovial Sarcoma is one of the sixteen subtypes of Sarcomas.  It is estimated that 1 to 3 indiviuals of a million are diagnosed in the US each year.

There is a lot to learn about the causes and treatments of Sarcoma, which is why funding this research is so important to me and the many people affected by Sarcoma.

Wyatt's story:

On September 22, 1985 a set of twins stumbled into this world -- one butt-first, and the other by the ankle. Wyatt came out butt first, but landed on his feet, running through this world touching people's lives and making them better. I, Julia, am the other twin. I came into the world ankle-first... and even though Wyatt could run circles around me, he was always by my side.

In 2005 Wyatt was first diagnosed with Synovial Cell Sarcoma. He was diagnosed two more times: in 2009, days before graduating from the University of Georgia and weeks before his wedding, and again the summer of 2010. Wyatt bravely fought cancer through multiple surgeries, radiation, and chemo. On December 8, 2010, Wyatt left this earth a man full of love, a husband, a brother, a son, a friend, a leader, a Christian, and an example to thousands of people.

To celebrate the life Wyatt lived, and the life we shared as twins, I want to honor him by throwing this third annual fundraiser. All proceeds will be donated to the Sarcoma Foundation. Please help share in the love, laughs, and memories.

With Love,

Julia
