Half the Sky Screening: Feb. 13 and 17,2013 - 7 pm at Vinegar Hill

There is a movement that has been growing across the country and is now reaching a tipping point. Just as slavery was the defining struggle of the 19th century, the fight to end the oppression of women and girls worldwide defines our current century. We are working to strengthen that movement here at home in Charlottesville to support critically important work around the world.

Will you join us?

Hidden in the overlapping problems of sex trafficking and forced prostitution, gender-based violence, and maternal mortality is the single most vital opportunity of our time — and women are seizing it. From Somaliland to Cambodia to Afghanistan, women's oppression is being confronted head on and real, meaningful solutions are being fashioned. Change is happening, and it’s happening now.

The fearless advocates on the frontlines of this fight need our help. They need their stories heard and their battles supported.

A team of local citizens wants to bring the film that sparked this movement to Charlottesville, the nationally acclaimed Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide, by award-winning New York Times journalist Nicholas Kristof and his partner Sheryl WuDunn.
