MY 27th BIRTHDAY AND A 5K RACE
In just under two months, I will be turning 27. That's right, the big 2-7. For all of my twenties, I've been involved in some way or another with helping the orphaned children in China. Yes, I came upon the cause somewhat randomly but I've fallen in love with the children and don't for a moment regret dedicating so much of my time to them, including the last 3 years of full-time employment at Half the Sky Foundation.
Now I'm dedicating something else to the children - my birthday! I'd like to raise $10 for each year of my life - $270 - by November 24. If I can reach this goal, I'll personally donate $30 to make it an even $300. $300 is enough to pay half the costs of enrolling one special child in an infant nurture or preschool class through Half the Sky for an entire year.
**UPDATE- WE REACHED THIS GOAL IN JUST ONE DAY SO I'M UPPING THE ANTE TO SEE WHAT ELSE WE CAN ACCOMPLISH!!**
If I can raise $600 to fully sponsor the care of one child for an entire year, I will not only dedicate my birthday to this cause, I will also run a 5K in honor of these children. Please consider joining me.
For more evidence of how utterly amazing these kiddos are, and how much I care about them, scroll through my photos on the left. For more information about Half the Sky, keep reading:
Half the Sky was created in order to enrich the lives of orphaned children in China. We provide model programs and caregiver training designed to offer loving, family-like care to children of all ages and abilities. It is our goal to ensure that every orphaned child has a caring adult in her life and a chance at a bright future.
We've come a long way toward this goal in the last 15 years but we still have a long way to go. We're dedicating this Crowdrise campaign to continuing the legacy of Half the Sky's work at the 51 institutions throughout China where we have established children's programs.
Join us to ensure that the children at each and every one of these centers continues to know the love of family. Help us give them a second chance at childhood.
