Hands Across the Water is a non-profit child placing agency with offices located in Ann Arbor, Monroe and Mt. Clemens. Founded in 1999, we began as a support agency to families who had adopted children internationally. Today, our services have expanded to include foster care, state ward adoption, infant domestic adoption, international adoption, behavioral health, in-home parenting education and Wraparound services. We serve families across 8 counties, including Jackson, Lenawee, Livingston, Monroe, Wayne, Oakland, Washtenaw and Macomb. We strive to ensure safe and healthy families for every child through offering a variety of resources and support. As the needs of children and families in our community continues to increase, our agency has continued to experience growth. Unfortunately, the expansion of the foster care department means that the number of children who have experienced abuse and neglect has also increased. These children are placed in foster homes, some with relatives and some with unrelated caregivers. For all of our children, the goal is to reunify them with birth families. When this is not possible, adoption is the goal. Children that come into the care of the agency have often suffered the trauma of the loss of their parents, abuse and/or neglect, separation from everything familiar, including sometimes being separated from siblings, pets, friends, school and special belongings. Hands Across The Water seeks community support to ensure that all children and all families receive the highest level of care to help lessen the effects of this trauma and to perserve and support healthy families. Donations will go towards supporting the infrastructure needed to provide the highest level of care to our clients.
