Hands Off Ancient Pygmy Forest
Organized by: David Tavelli
Hands Off! Ancient Pygmy Forest and Fort Bragg's Water Supply was organized to prevent the development of a dump at 30075 Highway 20 Fort Bragg from being developed on rare geological habitat, ancient Pygmy Forest Woodland. Hands Off! is also working to protect one of the municipal water sources of the City of Fort Bragg, Newman Gulch Reservoir, from toxins and polluted run-off which would be generated at the dump site. Mendocino Solid Water Management Authority (MSWMA) is the lead agency of the dump project and is expected to approve its own project. Because of the significant effect on the environment of the proposed project, Hands Off! Ancient Pygmy Forest and Fort Bragg's Water Supply wishes to file a lawsuit to enforce the provisions of the California Environmental Quality Act. Unfortunately for our small group of dedicated people, a lawsuit to challenge the development of the site is the only option available. The funds obtained will be used to hire an attorney to challenge the environmental issues in court.
