In this event, each participant projects a duration they believe they can hold a handstand. Mine is 1 min 22 sec. If you wish to sponser me, for example, you may either give a flat amount or sponser me per second. For example, you could give a quarter, a dollar, or 100 dollars per second ;)
This reason this cause is so important...
Both human and marine life survival are intimately connected to keeping sharks alive. We don't have much time left to protect all the sharks that are being killed in the ocean.
Sharks have been around for 450 million years. The are the longest living species on the planet. They have survived every major extinction... except for the one humans are about to put them through.
If you take an apex preditor out of its ecosystem, that ecosystem will collapse. The ocean is responsible for producing 78% of the oxygen we breathe (crazy, but true!). The oceans also regulate our climate and feed a big portion of our world. Thus we need sharks for a multitude of reasons, for our human survival.
The first Sharkwater movie (which came out in 2007) brought awareness to the atrocity of the sharkfinning industry, and how 100 million sharks were dying a year for a bowl of shark fin soup. This movie changed government policy in 22 countries, and helped make shark-finning illegal almost everywhere in the world.
90% of shark populations have died off in the last 40 years. Right now Scientists say 150 million sharks are being killed per year...which is insanity after all of the regulations that have been put in place to protect sharks. However, they are only able to track where 70 million of them are dying off. Rob Stewart (producer/director of Sharkwater 1 & 2) has shed light on where the other 80 million are dying and what is being done with their bodies....and it directly affects you, me...and some of our pets.
Shark is being discovereed in cosmetics ( like lip-sticks & moisturizers), as well as in livestock & pet food. Most shocking though, sharks are being packaged as other fish and sold in grocery stores to you & me. Insanity, right?
Well...this is why we are so passionate about raising money for Sharkwater 2. We need this film to get made, so we can expose what is actually happening and stop the madness....not only for the survival of sharks and marinine life, but for human life as well.
Sharkwater 2 has already begun filiming in 4 countries. If we raise enough money, Rob can carry on with production in September and get this movie done and out there (hopefully) by early 2017.
I really appreciate you taking the time to read all of this. If you are moved to support our project, we are most grateful to have whatever you are willing to give.
Speaking for the crew at Kurmalliance & all the sharks in the ocean, to humanity as a whole, we thank you for taking the time to read this & consider helping our world.
