Life, Running, and Thank You!

BENEFITING: INJURED MARINE SEMPER FI FUND
EVENT DATE: Nov 06, 2016
Running is a gift. I didn't realize it when I first laced up and started running laps around the Mall in Washington, D.C. as a fresh-faced college graduate looking for relief from hours at a desk. Ten years and six marathons later, running has given me many things (ask me sometime and I might tell you about all of them). The New York Marathon has long been at the top of my running "bucket list." But, this time I'd like to use the miles of training and the marathon itself to give something back.
Many of you know of my time as a military spouse. Although we've since moved on to civilian life, my experience during those years is something I still carry with me. The impact of war is deep, and there are many who still feel its effects to this day. I've personally seen the great things the Semper Fi Fund and America's Fund is doing to provide immediate financial assistance and lifetime support to post-9/11 wounded, critically ill and injured members of all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces, and their families, ensuring that they have the resources they need during their recovery and transition back to their communities. Since establishing the Semper Fi Fund in 2004, it has issued more than 106,000 grants, totaling more than $120 million in assistance to over 15,000 of our heroes and their families.
So, please join me. This isn't just about me getting to New York. It's about spreading the word and helping those who have given so much for our country get the assistance they truly need. I plan to share their stories with you in the coming months. In the meantime, please consider joining me on this journey with a donation of any amount. Every little bit helps and will provide motivation as I take on marathon seven!
As a note: The Semper Fi Fund has been awarded the highest ratings from watch dog groups: A+ Top Rated Charity from CharityWatch, and it is one of only three veteran nonprofits to receive this rating in recent years; and 4 Stars from Charity Navigator a rating only given to 4% of all charities. It maintains an extremely low overhead - 6% and we provide rapid assistance with no red tape.
