BENEFITING: FRIENDS WITHOUT A BORDER
EVENT DATE: Oct 23, 2016
On 23 Oct 2016, I am going to run my first ever half marathon for Lao Friends Hospital for Children, in the scenery Luang Prabang, Northern Laos. My friend and colleague, Jenny and Karinda, will also join the 7k run for the good cause!
I'm currently doing a six-month volunteer assignment with the United Nations Development Programme in Lao PDR. Since day one this country has treated me with nothing but kindness, generosity, amazing culture and cuisine and a particularly rainy La Nina monsoon. Life is great at the capital, but what's better to break up the routine five to eight by tackling some fitness challenges for a good cause? Hence my first half marathon. All the money raised will be donated directly to patients care at the Lao Friends Hospital for Children.
Lao Friends Hospital for Children opened on February 11th, 2015. It is the first full-service pediatric hospital in northern Laos and now provides free medical care to over 15,000 children annually. Kids and their families often have to travel long distances, up to 8 hours, to receive the medical care they desperately need. The hospital is run by a New York and Japan based NGO Friends Without A Border, committed to providing high-quality healthcare to the children of Southeast Asia.
In a country like Laos where chronicle poverty still prevails and quality healthcare for children is scare, LFHC's free medical service could be life-saving for many kids. So let's show some love and help keeping the hospital door open for a little longer!
