BENEFITING: Habitat for Humanity- MidOhio
EVENT DATE: Dec 03, 2013
Birthdays usually end up being about gifts and material items. While presents and cool gadgets are always nice, I don't need them. There are too many other people in this community that don't have the basic necessities that we all enjoy. So for the fourth year in a row, I've decided to turn my birthday into something more meaningful. Help me make it a day where we come together to do something to improve the lives of vulnerable families in Central Ohio.
In the past, we have raised funds for organizations that help to provide basic necessities like clean drinking water and food. This year, my charity of choice is Habitat for Humanity of Greater Columbus. Habitat provides a hand up to a family in need of safe, decent and affordable housing. Much like food and water, safe and affordable housing can stabilize families and (literally) lay the foundations for their success. Owning a decent, affordable home has been proven to help ensure a child's educational success, equip people with a sense of dignity and pride, and lift families out of the cycle of poverty, permanently.
I'm turning 28 years old, and instead of asking for gifts, I'm asking for $28 ($1 for each year of my existence) from everyone I know. It's not going to me, though. All of it is going to build affordable homes, empower families, and develop our community.
If you can't donate $28, every little bit counts. Please give what you can. Last year we raised about $650. Let's beat that this year! I'm kicking off the party with a $28 donation of my own!
All the best,
