Theresa Dobek's Fundraiser:

Happy Birthday, Jill!

What's so amazing about the month of May? May is Pediatric Stroke Awareness Month. It is also Jill's birth month. What better way to celebrate Jill's birthday than by making a donation to CHASA, the Children's Hemiplegic and Stroke Association!

What will your donation do?

1. Provide orthotic grants.
Luckily, Jill's orthotics have been covered by our insurance. Some families are not so lucky. The cost of Jill's AFO on her left leg: $2,625. The cost of the small insert inside of her right shoe: $1,153. She needs her orthotics replaced every 9 -12 months.

2. Provide grants for support groups, outings, and programs for families with children that have hemiplegia.
Through CHASA we have found support from other families, and Jill gets to meet other kids like her.

3. Provide educational scholarships.

4. Provide athletic scholarships.

5. And most important to me, support awareness and research campaigns.
Jill was diagnosed with left hemiplegic cerebral palsy due to an in-utero stroke two months after her second birthday. While Mark and I saw signs that something wasn't right, three doctors told us Jill was fine and that she would "outgrow it." Obviously, Jill was not fine, and she will not outgrow it. Mark and I had never heard of babies having strokes before they were born, and people that we have told Jill's story to hadn't heard of it, either. And like many other children that have had a stroke in-utero, the cause of Jill's stroke is still unknown.
