BENEFITING: BALANCED INNOVATIVE TEACHING STRATEGIES INC
“Whatever you are physically...male or female, strong or weak, ill or healthy--all those things matter less than what your heart contains. If you have the soul of a warrior, you are a warrior. All those other things, they are the glass that contains the lamp, but you are the light inside.”
― Cassandra Clare, Clockwork Angel
October 1st is our mother, Lynn Cross', birthday!
In honor of our mother and all of her amazing, selfless work, we ask that you help us show our appreciation to our Mom by making a donation towards the care of the equine residents, who directly benefit the human volunteers, visitors and students by providing great joy, education, and all kinds of therapy (spiritual, physical, emotional). When given a second chance at health, and having the opportunity to choose the "job" they're most qualified for (lesson horse, driving a cart, show horse, being groomed, looking pretty in a field while eating grass), their natural grace and gratitude makes for a beautiful symbiotic relationship with the people who get to work with them. (And yet, we think we have the better end of the deal).
If everyone that follows Little Brook Farm on Facebook donated just $5, we would raise over $14,000! These donations will cover veterinary expenses, feed and bedding, as well as help us to buy hay for the winter for the 75 horses currently in our care. 100% of the donations are applied to the care of the horses and educational programs for children and adults. Little Brook Farm has no paid staff, and is entirely supported by volunteers.
We thank you in advance for your generous contribution, and hope you will follow us on Facebook to see what we do.
Please send your tax deductible donations to: B.I.T.S., c/o Lynn Cross, PO Box 127, Old Chatham, NY 12136.
Thank you so much!
*This fundraiser is a gift from Lynn's daughters, Summer Brennan and Andria Kolesnikoff, as a small token of our gratitude and love on her birthday.
Please see below for more information about B.I.T.S. and Little Brook Farm, including articles about some of their work.
Little Brook Farm, established in 1977, is the oldest rescue in the US. We rescue and provide sanctuary to 65 horses, 2 donkeys and 70 cats ((neutered/no cages), as well as 4 dogs, 2 sheep and 2 chickens. Our rescues become accustomed to the life-long care we are committed to providing. Animals are never bred or sold, and we maintain a strict “must return if…” policy when adopted.
Through the generosity of 10 landowners and our own 55-acre farm, we have a total of 148 acres available for the horses. We receive no government funding. 100% of our donations directly contribute to the care and comfort of our animals.
Little Brook Farm is home to B.I.T.S. (Balanced Innovative Teaching Strategies, Inc.), a non-profit 501c3 through the NYS Department of Education. B.I.T.S. has been providing multi-faceted educational, vocational and therapeutic programs utilizing the rehabilitated animals of Little Brook Farm since 1986. The horses are our "working partners." We provide a wide range of safety-conscious programs at our facility, as well as other locations, to over 80 schools, agencies and organizations. Our students’ success is achieved largely through the relationship with the horse; he is non-judgmental, provides immediate feedback and, as a subject, offers unlimited possibilities to grow mentally, physically and emotionally.
