BENEFITING: Transitions Global
EVENT DATE: May 29, 2011
Well, I was able to meet my own challenge of finishing the race in less than 2 hours! I am thrilled!! I had a blister developing the last mile that really started to hurt, but I thought of all the girls out there that are in MUCH worse pain than running with a blister and I was able to muster up some energy that last mile. I hope that this is just the beginning of many races running for a cause such as this!
In order to make this more fun for those donating, I am going to create a challenge for myself....IF i run this race in 2 hrs or under, I will match (up to $200) what others have donated back to Transitions Global. I just ran this entire course over the weekend, and between miles 11-12.5, there is a hill (although gradual) that never stops and it took everything in me to keep going. If at this point, I know that I will be raising MORE funds if I stay strong, it will help me overcome PAIN :) I ran the entire course last week in 2:08 so I have to somehow slash 8 minutes off my time, but I think it's do-able, especially if I know I have some support. Finishing strong can be a mental challenge, ... For me, knowing that your dollars could provide more dollars for the girls I'm running for will help me tremendously :) THANK YOU!!!
My name is Pam ~ I live in Bend and enjoy running. I am a wife to my sweetie for 15 years and together we have 5 amazing children! I am running in a half marathon on Memorial Day weekend in just a few short weeks! it is called the Happy Girls Half Marathon.
I've been reading and educating myself on human trafficking and have a HUGE heart to not only help women that have been able to escape and be set free from this type of slavery, but to help those who are still enslaved. I have decided to run for this cause by asking for donations to Transitions Global.
Here's what Transitions Global is about:
Transitions Global empowers survivors of sex trafficking with the opportunity to heal and recapture the most basic of human rights: freedom and hope. We use holistic and innovative solutions to provide a safe environment where girls can heal through intensive trauma therapy, life skills training and learn viable, sustainable job skills.
Transitions Global empowers girls to become strong and independent adults. Restoring dignity, health, and most importantly hope, Transitions Global is a pioneer in the rehabilitation of trafficking survivors.
As a woman and a mother to 2 daughters, I can't imagine what life is like to be enslaved this way. So often, I have felt I am only ONE person and how much difference can ONE person make?
This is my attempt at doing SOMETHING. Please help me raise funds so that one more girl can find hope and freedom.
