Our mission is to bring happiness to Tembien, Ethiopia by ensuring that the children there have access to education, safe drinking water and better health.
After temporarily leaving the United States to return to his home country of Ethiopia in 2001, Michael Belay saw a society still torn and impoverished by war. He saw smiles on the kids' faces but saw that they lacked basic needs and resources. The children wanted to learn. They needed access to safe drinking water and better health.
In response, Michael Belay created Hands Across the Planet To Poor Youth, a non-profit 501c3 organization desiginated to address these issues.
In 2005, Michael Belay sold his house and business to start a school in Tembien. We need financial help so the school can serve the immense number of local children. Our goal is to create and sustain a school that can serve 2,500 children. The school has recently has been damaged due to rain so outside help is desperately needed.
H.A.P.P.Y's second focus is water. 66% of the rural drinking water is polluted. The number one cause of death in Ethiopia is unsafe drinking water. That is why H.A.P.P.Y also focuses on water purification systems, collecting water from new wells and distributing safe drinking water to Ethiopian villages. We need financial help to keep these programs running as well.
That's our goal. We need your help. H.A.P.P.Y seeks donations and aid to fulfil these goals. We have no paid officers or executive staff. All founds go directly to these projects. Will you reach out your hand and help us spread happiness?
