EVENT DATE Jun 13, 2016

THE STORY:

Dear friends and family,

I am humbly asking for an urgently needed loan to stop my townhome association board from foreclosing on my family home. For the past two years a handful of cruel and unusual gentrifiers have been suing me and my wife, taking us to court twice, winning judgments against us and unsuccessfully attempting to garnish our wages and taxes. Although we have paid (or attempted to pay until they stopped accepting our payments in order to bogusly my charge late fees and set-up the foreclose process) our association dues for every month that we've lived here the past 8 years, and despite the fact that we are not behind on our mortgage, these inhumane neighbors on the board have unscrupulously piled up thousands of dollars in arbitrary late fees and legal fees in an attempt to displace us from our family home. If they are successful, ours will be the third Black household the association board has foreclosed on. I've procrastinated to get it done, but I will be filing a complaint with H.U.D. to address what I believe is a violation of the federal Fair Housing Act. If and when I get past this hell, I will attempt to get legislation introduced at the state legislature to stop this abusive homeowner's association usury that I learned too late is quite common.

I'm not sure what the current debt amount is, but I know it's more than $7,000 and counting now. Less than two weeks ago our family suffered an unforeseen, abrupt and significant loss of household income that now prevents me from even being able to produce enough money, $2,000 to file a Chapter 13 bankruptcy, which is my last resort to stop the foreclosure process! We worked hard to get our first mortgage eight years ago to establish a stable home and a wealth building asset for our 11 y/o daughter, who was a toddler when we moved in, and our 5 y/o sun who was born here.

Although I've been a nonprofit worker and even an electoral candidate who has had to raise money by asking for donations to help fund a variety of causes, I hate having to try to seek help paying these legal expenses for myself, but I am damn near desperate because I need to save my family home and overcome this terrible injustice. I am not asking for a donation, but instead I'm asking you for a loan of any amount you and others can afford to spare. I will commit to repaying the loans within 10 months and offer a 10% gratuity if you can help a brotha in a depressing, but faithful need. If I can raise the total debt amount by July 13, I'll be able to file to bankruptcy to stop the foreclosure and keep my kids sleeping in their bedrooms.

Not going to judge the validity of your situation, but i believe in sticking together and what they are doing to you is modern-day colonization all over again. Its not enough to say, "brother, everything is going to be alright. Stay hopful." You might not be raising money to help support your family because you have cancer in your body, but you are fighting cancer in your community...trying to destroy your family. I will stand with you and yours....its a gift....repayment not needed. Stay courageous....stay vigilant...and continue to be the change this world needs. To express your need, as a man...leader of your household is NOT a weekness.....on the contrary....it IS great strength! 1 year ago
