Friends....your help is required in this green & sustainable business (ad)venture, bringing jobs and local, organic food to my neighborhood.

I'm taking part in a '50k for 50k' Manhattan Waterfront Cycle Ride to grow the initital 'green' (pun intended) to fund project startup costs. READ ON.....

Harlem Grown will be employing & training unemployed mothers of P.S 175 children to grow and harvest organic baby lettuce; selling to local restaurants and distributing healthy food and in a community which has 50 fried chicken outlets in a 1 mile radius

Whats going on?

On Sep 15th 2013 I will be cycling with a group of friends, colleagues & fellow 'green' fundraisers around the perimeter of the Island to raise 'seed money' (another pun - yes) for the cause.

We need your help to make this program a reality. Please give us your support today and help working-class parents grow some baby greens!

More details:-

Registered 501(c)(3) Non-Profit, is launching it’s new Greenhouse Apprenticeship program for unemployed school parents at the hydroponic greenhouse. Working to grow and supply Harlem with fresh, nutritious and affordable leafy greens, Harlem Grown operates a hydroponic greenhouse on 134th Street in Central Harlem. The new Greenhouse Apprenticeship program will implement a job-training program for unemployed parents from Harlem Grown’s partnering schools to work at the greenhouse.

Did you know....

In Harlem, three out of four families are headed by a single parent, the median income of $25,800 is half that of New York City as a whole and the unemployment rate is three times higher. The Greenhouse Apprenticeship program offers parents in the program living wages and flexible work hours - so they are able to work while their children are in school and increase their knowledge of sustainability and health.

The Greenhouse Apprenticeship program will teach the trainees sustainable agriculture, community development, and business skills. The trainees will grow, cultivate, harvest, package, assist with marketing and selling the produce, and receive workforce development.

We need your help to make this program a reality. Please give us your support today and help our parents grow some baby greens!
