Harlem Prep Charter School wrote -
We have the opportunity to transform a K-5 school that was failing 270 children in Harlem. 89% of these children live in poverty and the research is clear: if these children don’t get on academic track to graduate high school, they will live in poverty their entire lives. It is a pivotal moment for these 270 children—we literally have the opportunity to transform their lives.
This failing school, Harlem Day, has become Harlem Prep, a college preparatory public charter school. The school will go from one where 91% were not able to complete grade-level work, to one were over 80% will excel as part of the Democracy Prep Public Schools network. To undertake this turnaround, we are seeking partners—please consider joining us.
We are actively seeking partners to help us turn the school around. Using Robin Hood Foundation metrics, we estimate the ROI on your philanthropic investment to be 6:1. By getting involved, not only will you be changing the lives of these 270 children (and the thousand more that will follow through this school), but we’ll have shown it’s possible to turn around a failing school.
