BENEFITING: HARLEM GROWN
Harlem Grown's mission is to inspire youth to live healthy and ambitious lives through mentorship and hands-on education in urban farming, sustainability, and nutrition. We are a nonprofit organization and we several urban farms, school gardens, and a hydroponic greenhouse in Harlem in New York City.
Many of our programs are geared towards young children as we believe that healthy habits start young. We work with children, inspiring them to live healthy, happy, and ambitious lives through our mentorship and urban agriculture programs. Food justice in neighborhoods like Harlem is more than just providing and distributing food. It is about delving deep into the community and providing education, knowledge, and access. We are working from the bottom up, cultivating a generation of children that is knowledgeable and excited about food, gardening, and healthy living.
Harlem Grown was founded in 2010 by Tony Hillery. It currently operates two urban farms and a hydroponic greenhouse in Harlem. Its programs include school gardens, the summer Garden Club program, the Greenhouse Apprenticeship program, and various nutrition/gardening workshops for children and parents.
