BENEFITING: American Foundation for Suicide Prevention
EVENT DATE: Sep 28, 2014
Follow us as we train to run in the Quad Cities Marathon this September 28th!
"Today is May 1, 2014. It's day 1 of our marathon training. As of today's date, I can not run a single mile without stopping. The purpose for me in running this marathon, is to show my kid's the importance of setting goals. Here is the lesson: You can accomplish so much in your life, if you just set goals, and then work as hard as you can to achieve those goals. Set high goals for yourself. Things might seem overwhelming at times, but that's okay. If you just concentrate on working to improve every single day, before you know it, you will wake up and realize that your goal is within your reach." - Mike Hartman
"In the Quad Cities alone there have been 6 suicides just this year. All being students in high school. My reason for running in the marathon (besides the crazy accomplishing feeling when it's done), is to raise money for suicide awareness. Even though I didn't know any of the students personally, it still affected my friends and my community more than you could ever know. We have a long way to go until we're ready for the 26.2 miles, but running in this marathon is also my way of showing that you can get through anything. That you are stronger than you think. That you, no matter what obstacle may be in front of you, can get through it. Much like my dad I'm not exactly in the best shape, but by September 28th- we'll be unstoppable." - Jenna Hartman
"When it comes to suicides I have seen way too many reports. I am running in this race not to win, but to raise some money for the suicide awareness fund. I have never ever done anything that will be this challenging. But, I feel that with the right training I can do it. On the very first run that I did I ran two miles, I want to increase that everyday until I can run all twenty six. Running this marathon will show other people that just because something looks hard or impossible.. it can always be done. By the time the marathon comes around, I will be ready. I will run it all for suicide awareness." - Alex Hartman
